After a great playoff run last spring the Canadiens have returned at it is without a doubt the identify the 2010-2011 Stanley Cup Championship. General Manager Pierre Gauthier didn't make very many changes over the off season but he did tweak the c's. The most important switch to the 2009-2010 Habs versus the 2010-2011 Habs is goaltending. Jaroslav Halak successfully transformed himself in a decent backup goalie to from the elite goalies with the NHL last season. It took him all season but he finally been able to grasp Price's job before the play offs and i think we all believe all others. Gauthier was criticized for pulling the trigger on Halak to soon and never shopping him around enough to find the best possible return.Pierre Gauthier's trigger finger brought two prospects: NHL ready Lars Eller and Several years away Ian Schultz, who hopes to himself to Milan Lucic once he hits the NHL. Eller is anticipated to experience scoring line potential but he's generated mixed reviews. Some say the Blues were crazy to provide him up whilst others say they are simply an OK prospect. To date Eller finds himself playing down in the bottom six, he in fact is hard play against and exhibits some of the potential inside a forward the organization has seen in ages. Eller is only 21 and came over to The us just last year where he played towards the Blue's affiliate team in Peoria, more questions must be answered as Eller progresses through his rookie NHL season.Apart from the Halak deal centerman Dominic Moore and "MetroMan" Glen Metropolit were replaced with Jeff Halpern and Dustin Boyd. Halpern was aquired at the begining of September by its Canadiens and also has already made a change scoring 3 points in 6 games which has a plus 2 rating. Halpern brings a veteran presence on the Canadiens with a safe and conservative game. Boyd acts as the Canadien's 4th line center and also has struggled in that early season going -2. He exhibits good speed and many solid hockey sense.Montreal similar to last months are difficulties scoring. This scoring trouble were noticed that much in the least by reason of Carey Price's stellar play. Right after a rough preseason Price shows roughly compete all this time in that young season and also has took part in every single piece of Montreal's games posting great numbers. The scoring troubles stem from Gomez and Gionta who continue to struggle, a lackluster powerplay but some missing offense from Montreal's defense. Gomez and Gionta who started the summer season even on a line with Pouliot have struggled and so provoked Martin to change up their line mates. A long way linemates have ranged from Pouliot to Moen to Pyatt, still it doesn't help. The Canadien's powerplay was second with the NHL not too long ago but in 2010 is pathetic sitting at around 5% success rating. The Canadien's defense play a large part in the powerplay's poor performance. With Markov missing having Marc Andre Bergeron the Canadiens have trouble bringing the puck up ice and provide no threat in the point. Subban who may have taken Markov's job as puck mover in the powerplay isn't cutting it. Nor is Spacek who takes Bergeron's place from last season as trigger man. Spacek is very much caught in the offensive funk since leaving Buffalo and signing in Montreal in '09.Bright spots are the Plekanec, Kostitsyn and Cammalleri line taking the 1,2 and 4th spot in Canadiens scoring. The fishing line has truly been sparked through die hard play of Andrei Kostitsyn who's going to be as part of his contract year. The Canadiens sit in the middle of the rest as just stated this holiday season and still have much to function on if it is to enhance during the standings.
